Tips for Shooting at Albion Basin during Wildflower Season

  1. Get there VERY early and pack a picnic and expect to hang out until the sun is just right

  2. Have a plan B. We showed up an hour early for this shoot and there was a line of cars 30 people deep. They wouldn’t let anyone in until someone came out. We ended up walking around and hiking up a little ways and found a couple wildflowers on our own. If we had gone up a little higher there would’ve been more flowers but it started to rain and the little one was crying.

  3. Be flexible and try a sunrise shoot. The sun actually rises alot later in the mountains than in the valley. It has to come up and above the mountain to start showing. You also don’t have to compete with the crowds for this. You could also try a weekday to see if the crowds ease up.

  4. Plan for summer storms. You can bring clear umbrellas to protect your hair and clothes.

  5. If you are with children and have to hike a little ways, bring a backpack full of the clothing you want them to wear to the shoot and a pair of sturdy shoes they can walk in.

The ideal situation is that you get to see the spectacular wildflowers of Utah. Hopefully these tips help you on your next trip to the mountains.
