Persephone

I was inspired by this shoot at the Wichita art museum by a painting of the greek goddess and wife of Hades, Persephone. She would spend spring and summer on Earth and winter in the Underworld with Hades. The dog represents the three headed guard dog that he had to protect the entrance of the river of souls. I added to the story by thinking that if I were him, I would send my only love to another realm with protection and guidance, which is something that Greek gods did often. The glitter represents the fact that she isn’t entirely human and the tears represent her being torn between two worlds. One where everything was alive and growing and beautiful and the other where everything was dead and grieving. I’m super proud of this set because I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with it and I just got creative and built more on top of the original idea.
